Title: Advice on how to connect Korg Pa5x to Korg Nautilus -73
Post by: quadnutter on Jan 29, 2026, 09:54 AM
I hope that you can help me. I am a novice keyboard player with a disability. I have Parkinson's disease and I purchased my Korg Pa5x a few years ago to enable me to enjoy playing the keyboard for my mental health.
The Pa5x is an excellent machine, and I have hardly explored all the functionality that it offers me.
I decided to buy second hand a Korg Nautilus 73 to explore the functions of a workstation.
I have installed the Nautilus workstation on a two tier keyboard stand, and I bought some cables which I thought I would use to plug my Nautilus into the Pa5x and then I would be able to hear my Nautilus sound on my PaAS speaker
I first used 1/4 inch mono jack leads which I connected to the Audio out L & R jack sockets on my Nautilus and to the Audio In L&R jack sockets on my Pa5x.
I could not hear any sound on the PaAS speaker. The Pa5x was powered up, but I could not find out how to enable the Audio In sockets on my Pa5x to be able to hear the Nautilus sound.
I had also bought 3 midi cables. Please note that I am not familiar with MIDI function, but I thought I would plug in the OUT socket on the Nautilus into the IN socket of the Pa5x.
I then thought that I would plug in the other two MIDI cables to the IN/OUT sockets which remained and the THROUGH socket too.
I heard sound but it was not the full sound which I could hear on headphones connected to the Nautilus.

Can you please provide me with some simple instructions which would allow me to hear the full sound of the Nautilus on the Pa5x PaAS speaker?
I can see a large number of options in the MIDI menu, but I don't have enough understanding to competently troubleshoot.
My current view is that what I am trying to do is not supported between the two keyboards, and that I may need to buy an external mixing desk and connect that to an external amplifier and speakers in order to hear both the Nautilus and the Pa5X sound.
I hope that you are able to help me.

Hi There,
Sorry I have not been on for a couple of days.
Sorry also to read that you have Parkinson's.

Please ensure that you have the main volumes on the Nautilus and the PA5X turned right down before you start this.

OK have you turned the line inputs on because when you first turn the Pa5X they are disabled.
The instructions for that are on Page 700 of the Pa5X_User_Manual_v1.4_(English).pdf
Please make sure that you follow the instructions re lowering the Volume level to zero before you begin.
This is what the Manual says

Turning the line channel on/off
1
Be sure the selected CONTROL mode is MAIN.
2 Use BUTTON #5 (Line On/Off) to turn the line input channel on or off.
Please note that, for safety reasons, the input is always switched off when turning
the instrument on.

Adjusting Slider 5 of the Control section changes the volumes.

Again this is what the Manual says on page 704

Line Audio Inputs
Adjusting the line channel volume
The line input can be quickly turned on or off, and its volume in the mix adjusted,
right from the control panel or from the main page.
1
Be sure the Line channel is turned on.
2 Be sure the selected CONTROL mode is MAIN.
3 Use SLIDER #5 (Line) to adjust the Line channel volume.

I hope that helps,
Barry.
